Research and Teaching Interests: First Nations, political ecology, cartography, science and technology studies, expertise, forestry, climate change, media.

Tom Özden-Schilling recently completed his Ph.D in History, Anthropology, and Science, Technology and Society at MIT, and is currently a William Lyon Mackenzie King postdoctoral scholar in the Weatherhead Center's Canada Program. Tom's research examines changing relationships between environmental modeling technologies, rural governance institutions, and remote research sites run by white and First Nations communities in northwest British Columbia. His current book project, Salvage Cartographies: Mapping, Futures, and Landscapes in the Wake of Neoliberalism examines these intersections in the light of massive forest disease epidemics and contests over propose oil and gas pipelines throughout western Canada.
