Social Anthropology and Folklore & Mythology
Class of 2023
Cade Williams

Hi y’all! My name is Cade and I’m a junior in Pfoho joint concentrating in social anthropology and folklore and mythology. I’m also pursuing a language citation in Russian. I decided to concentrate in anthropology because I really enjoy the ethnography-focused methodology and the interdisciplinary nature of the field. My research interests right now are focused on the intersections between (proto)fascist and romantic nationalist political movements and religious belief. Outside of class I’m involved with WHRB, and I write for the Independent.  In my free time, I like binge watching docuseries, baking, and stockpiling books that I’ll hopefully get around to reading someday. I’m happy to speak with anyone about anything (anthropology related or otherwise) so don’t hesitate to reach out!

Research Interests

Primary: politics, race, and religion; intersections between romantic nationalism, (proto)fascistic political ideologies, and (folk) religious belief and expression; the holding and mobilization of contradictory beliefs and discourses; the interplay between “Truth” and “Myth”; contemporary interpretations of holy texts; the Southern U.S.; conservative white Evangelicalism; Neo-Confederate groups and political movements

Secondary: Russian language and literature; new religious movements and alternative religions; radical politics
