On July 8th, 2021, the official Greek government gazette announced that by Decree of the President of the Hellenic Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou Michael Herzfeld (Ernest E. Monrad Research Professor of the Social Sciences in the Department of Anthropology), was awarded honorary Greek citizenship. In Memoriam, Theodore C. Bestor, Reischauer Institute Professor of Social Anthropology and Japanese Studies

Professor Theodore Bestor, Reischauer Institute Professor of Social Anthropology and Japanese Studies, died on July 1, 2021 after a long illness. Professor Bestor joined the Harvard Anthropology faculty in 2001 and served as Chair of the Department of Anthropology from 2007 to 2012. In 2011, he was named the Reischauer Institute Professor of Social Anthropology and Japanese Studies. From 2012 to 2018, he served as Director of the Reischauer Institute of Japanese Studies.
