Anthropology Community Members Challenge Department to Change

June 15, 2020

We deeply appreciate the effort that students and alumni have put into detailing the challenges facing our department. We have particular concern for those who are personally caught up in these cases and feel a keen responsibility to support them in every way possible. We condemn unequivocally the harassment that has been directed in social media and other forms toward former and current students, particularly those who worked with individuals accused in media reports of inappropriate behavior. At the same time, we are conscious of the impact on our department and the urgency of addressing more long-standing problems. We will take on board the recommendations made by students and alumni that are within our power to address in the department as we come together to engage in a thoughtful and deliberative process of enacting change.”
