The course of study in Social Anthropology requires a minimum of sixteen four-credit courses, at least twelve of which must be in anthropology. See the [Anthropology program of study page](https://gsas.harvard.edu/policy/anthropology) on the Harvard Griffin GSAS website for a more detailed presentation of Social Anthropology program objectives and student expectations.

The twelve required four-credit courses include:

- Anthropology 2905: Proseminar 1: History of Sociocultural Anthropology
- Anthropology 2910: Proseminar 2: Theories of the Social
- Anthropology 3628: Anthropological Research Methods
- Anthropology 3626: Research Design/Proposal Writing

Pedagogy in Anthropology Workshop (a non-credit workshop taken in Spring of G2) is also required.

First-year students must attain a B minimum grade in required courses and a minimum overall grade average of B+. No incompletes are allowed in the first year.
