How to Declare Anthropology

Welcome to Anthropology! The advising team in the Department of Anthropology consists of Rowan Flad, Director of Undergraduate Studies, Ramyar Rossoukh, Assistant Director of Undergraduate Studies, and Monique Rivera, Undergraduate Program Coordinator. We are happy to meet with you individually or as an advising team to discuss your interests in Anthropology, the undergraduate community within our department, and our program requirements.

To declare Anthropology or to change your concentration to Anthropology follow these steps:

  1. Read through For Prospectives and review our Guide to Concentration to familiarize yourself with the three programs of study: Archaeology, Social Anthropology, and our combined track that brings together both fields.
  2. Prepare the Department of Anthropology Plan of Study Form.
  3. For Archaeology, schedule a meeting with Rowan Flad (archtut@fas.harvard.edu) to discuss your interests, review your tentative plan of study, and have your declaration approved.
  4. For Social Anthropology, meet with Monique Rivera (anthrouc@fas.harvard.edu) or Ramyar Rossoukh (rossoukh@fas.harvard.edu) to discuss your interests, review your tentative plan of study, and have your declaration approved. Ramyar is available by appointment only and Monique is available during drop-in office hours (10-12 and 1-3, Monday - Friday) and by appointment.
